Shabuot

שבועות

← Song Library

Shabuot, on the sixth of Sivan (and the seventh outside the Land of Israel), commemorates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai and marks the wheat harvest and the first fruits. It is customary to study through the night, and the Ten Commandments and the Book of Ruth are read. Many Sephardic communities also recite the Azharot, poetic lists of the commandments.
